"LOGICAL POND FILTERS"

  These biological, mechanical and chemical pond filters were developed as a result of years of experimentation in our Koi holding and breeding facilities.

     A number of items need to be taken into consideration when deciding the unit that will satisfy the needs of you and your fish. Some things to consider are pond size, density and size of fish, amount of direct sunlight, the number of trees and shrubs in the surrounding area, volume of aquatic plants in the pond, feeding frequency and general weather conditions. Our filters are built and designed to work either at pond level or above the water level of the pond, however, they can be modified to run at or below water level if needed.

     The filter is designed to produce a maximum of biological, mechanical and optional chemical filtration with a minimum of maintenance. The first stage uses horizontally placed semi rigid 1 1/4" open cell filter mat with 1" spacing between them. This eliminates clogging and gives unrestricted water flow to encourage biological and mechanical separation. The second stage is a series of 1" dense filter mats for water polishing, these light weight mats can be hosed off with a minimum of effort. If you have a liner pond, you may wish to have a pH buffer chamber (filled with coral gravel or oyster shell) this would be the last stage in the filter. The pH buffer tray can be used for zeolite or carbon, instead of coral gravel. An optional bio tower will increase your carrying capacity by a further 40 to 50%. It's operation is principally biological and uses our line of oxygen enhancing bio stars. The bio unit is placed in front and on top of the basic filter box.

     Each filter chamber has bottom drains with knife valves for ease of cleaning and draining. The filter box is constructed using 3/4" fiberglassed plywood, with a sliding glass top to eliminate debris getting into filter unit. If your pond is in direct sunlight, you may require an UV sterilization system.

      Filters are manufactured by West Coast Koi Farm and are state of the art, plus are extremely user-friendly as well.

We can supply you with a total filter system for any size pond whether it is a newly constructed one or upgrading your existing filter system. Filtering media used for all custom built filters are Matala and Filter Brushes. Each filter comes supplied with one each of Inlet, Outlet and Drain. Valves and bottom drain are additional cost.

FILTER MATERIAL

Sinking Tubular Media for most Sand Filters

For pond owners who wish to use sand filters, Pacific Ponds Plus can supply you with replacement media. Sinking Tubular media works well as a replacement for sand in most pool filters. With unique shape and light weight this media passes high flow without excessive plugging while allowing for easy backwashing. Tubular Replacement Media is manufactured with small fins along its outside surface and is extruded with internal vanes to give the media an extremely high surface area. Used to replace sand in filters, this media increases flow and allows use of energy efficient low head pumps such as the SuperFalls KJ11000LHC or other. Works well with sand filters which use multi-port valve with ports which will retain the media within the filter tank. You will need to look at the bottom of the multi-port valve and verify that the exhaust ports on it's underside will not pass the media during backwash. The screening under the multi-port valve should have a maximum size of 1/8 inch in the slits to prevent the loss of media when backwashed.

To determine the how many cubic feet of Sinking Tubular Replacement Media for your sand filter is for every 100 lbs. of Sand will equal 1 cu. ft. of media.

Water is one of the most precious elements on earth. Freshwater is rare and precious. The water purification of sea water aquariums is not easy and requires special care. Every time we use water for artificial habitats and in order to create a natural environment for fish, plants and, of course, for us this water requires a special purification process. The quality of a body of water determines the development or decrease of these organisms. Aquaclay^® substantially contributes to keep the biological balance of these artificially created aquatic environments. Aquaclay^® is an all natural product created for the biological balance. Due to its special manufacture process, Aquaclay^® has a highly porous core and surface giving bacteria the ideal area to grow and support colonisation. Bacterial population contained in the biofilter contributes to clear and maintained water in ponds, it removes and controls algae blooms needed to ensure the survival and health of fish and plants in which they will thrive and bloom.

MULTICYCLONE FILTER

New for 2008

Multicyclone is a pre-filtration device that is capable of saving water and reducing filter maintenance. The Multicyclone works on the basis of centrifugal water filtration. There are no moving parts to wear and tear, and no filter media to clean or replace. Multicyclone pre-filter can be installed in ponds that use either a submersible or external pump for their filter system. The Multicyclone pre-filter works extremely well when using a sand or bead filter for your pond for it will cut down on frequency of backwashing as well as saves you water.

Centrifugal Filtration

1. Incoming water  enters 16 hydro cyclones tangentially, generating a strong centrifugal effect.

2. The sediment is spun out to the hydro cyclone's wall, and then spirals down to the sediment bowl.

3. The filtered water migrates towards the center of the hydro cyclone where the flow reverses and spirals upwards through the outlet.

4. Accumulation of sediment can be visibly monitored through the Multicyclone's clear sediment bowl.

5. The Multicyclone is easily cleaned by opening the valve.

Only 4 gallons / 15 litres of water is discharged to cleanse the Multicyclone.

The Bio Star is designed with maximum surface area, providing increased nitrifying bacteria efficiency plus the design causes considerable turbulence, which aids in maximum gas-exchange.

POND SURFACE SKIMMERS

Adding a surface skimmer to your pond will cut down your daily maintenance of removing floating debris from the surface of your pond and also can reduce surface tension of your pond. The skimmer inlet weir always floats just below the surface so fluctuating water levels of up to 5 inches will not affect its performance. The catch basket will hold about two handfuls of leaves and lifts out easily for cleaning. Skimmer is rated between 20 - 55 gpm and is great for ornamental ponds plus can be used in siphon and gravity flow applications.

Savio Skimmers

One of the best skimmers you could have for your pond is the Savio Skimmer.

The Savio Skimmer base unit can be used in ponds up to 8,000 gallons. For larger ponds the installation of two Savio's will easily take care of skimming your pond surface water.

There are three different size skimmer weir inlets used for different sized ponds and flows. you can install this skimmer in either concrete ponds or liner ponds.

The Savio skimmer can be used as the total filtration for ponds up to 1,000 gallons. By using a single Savio for smaller ponds helps reduce plumbing and eliminates need for extra equipment. For ponds that are slightly larger in size you can simply add one of  Savio's Livingponds biological filters.
